Doom – Gazzillion Ear EP

Doom, formerly knows as MF Doom, had a good year in 2009.  His “Born Like This“ album was a critical success and he received a lot of props from several indie rock, most notably Thom Yorke.  After releasing “Born Like This, he followed it up with “Unexpected Guest”, a comp of guest spots and rare tracks.  Next up was the “Gazzillion Ear EP.”  The EP contains the album version of “Gazzillion Ear” along with several remixes by Thom Yorke, Dave Sitek (TV on the Radio) and Dr. Who Dat./Jneiro Jarel.

Overall the EP is not bad, but personally I haven’t really felt MF Doom.  He was one of my favorite MC’s back in the day when he was Zev Love X in KMD.  “Mr Hood”, KMD’s debut album is one of my favorite albums of all time and Zev’s lyrics are exceptional.  However, once he reinvented himself as MF Doom, he lost something.  Maybe hes trying to sound harder or more street, or maybe his stream of conscious style rhyming just doesn’t sound that creative or maybe he just got old, I’m not sure, I just know I prefer “Mr Hood” over MF Doom.
