Zoroaster – Matador

I first heard of Zoroaster a few years ago with their release “Dog Magic”, at the time I wasn’t really impressed and didn’t give it much of a listen.  Maybe the album wasn’t that great, or maybe I just wasn’t ready for them, I don’t know.  But what I do know is that their new release “Matador” is absolutely incredible, a must have for anyone who likes metal, especially some with that sludgy southern sound.

The music is heavy, yet melodic, with a heavy psychedelic element to it.  They are definitely influenced by Sleep and Black Sabbath, as well as Eyehatgod. However, they are no mere clone of these bands; the guys in Zoroaster have enough talent and creativity that they are able to transcend their obvious influences, presenting a unique and original record.

This album has quickly become one of my favorite releases of 2010 and it will surely be one of my top ten records at the end of the year.
