Cypress Hill – Rise Up
Cypress Hill return after a six year absence with their eighth full length release “Rise Up”. The album features a variety of guests, such as Tom Morello from Rage Against the Machine on the title track, Daron Malakian from System of a Down on “Trouble Seeker”, Mike Shinoda from Linkin Park on “Carry Me Away” and Marc Anthony and Pitbull on the closing track “Armada Latina.” In addition to production handled in-house by B-Real and DJ Muggs, it also features production form Hip Hop legend Pete Rock and current underground favorite Jake One.
The stand out tracks here are the first two singles “Rise Up” and “Armada Latina”. “Rise Up is a rock banger featuring guitar work by Tom Morello. Current single, “Armada Latina” is based around a sample from “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes” by Crosby Stills and Nash and features a chorus sung by Marc Anthony and a guest verse by Pitbull.
These two tracks really sum up Cypress Hill and their ability to flow between genres, whether it’s working with rock artists, other rappers or singers, they are able to capture that classic Cypress Hill vibe. “Rise Up” is an excellent album and was well worth the six year wait.
