Ihsahn – After

As one of the founding members of Emperor, Ihsahn is best known for making some if the heaviest music Black Metal around.  With his side project Pecatum, he experimented with industrial and ambient elements. With his solo career, he has taken elements from both to create a powerful sound.  On his third solo album, “After”, the last of a trilogy, he truly sets himself apart from the masses.

It starts of with the pretty straightforward metalcore sounding “The Barren Lands”, but it quickly evolves on “A Grave Inversed” with its trashy sound and the spazzy saxophone provided by Jorgen Munkeby from the Norwegian band Shining.  The album continues to build and explores various progressive elements, while remaining grounded in the heavy, black metal Ihsahn is known for.

“After” is really Ihsahn’s finest hour and is a must for any fan of extreme music.
