Refused – The Shape of Punk to Come
Released in 1998, “The Shape of Punk to Come” is considered by many to be one of the most influential hardcore punk of all time. By the late ‘90s, Refused were one of the heaviest and most respected punk bands around. But it was this release that set their place in history.
After the pure hardcore sound of their previous album, “Songs To Fan The Flames Of Discontent”, fans expected something similar, however, the band was ready to experiment. “The Shape of Punk to Come” was a departure from their hardcore roots and was filled with prog elements, big beat and complex song structures. And now, a decade later, it’s evident that the title of the records was indeed true. Since its release, punk has evolved, for better and worse to include varying influences and experimentation.
Epitaph’s deluxe re-release of this classic album also includes a live album and a DVD of the documentary “Refused are Fucking Dead” which chronicles the demise of the band during their final tour through the U.S.
