#2 Munly & The Lupercalians – Petr and Wulf
Four or five years ago, if you had told me about Jay Munly and his brand of gospel/country/gothic/punk, I would have brushed you off. If you told me that he would quickly become one of my favorite artists, I would have laughed. Fast forward to today and surprise, he is one of my favorite artists. Having heard “Munly & the Lee Lewis Harlots” and “Jimmy Carter Syndrome”, as well as some of the Slim Cessna’s Auto Club records, a few years back, I was amazed. I had heard nothing like it before and have yet to hear any thing like it since. The music is always interesting, the lyrics always amaze, the storing telling is superb and overall, the albums are works of art. I have been waiting for awhile now to hear something new and was once again blown away by “Petr and the Wulf”. While a bit different musically in some sense, the album is another masterpiece. A genre bending modern folk classic. The first in a trilogy, I can’t wait to hear the rest.
