Eagle Twin – The Feather Tipped The Serpent’s Scale
Truth be told, when I first heard “The Unkindness of Crows“, Eagle Twins first record, I wasn’t all that moved, it just didn’t capture my attention at the time. But as my tatse have changed and expanded, the album has recently become a favorite of mine, so once the follow up was announced, I’ve been eagerly awaiting its release.
“The Feather Tipped The Serpent’s Scale”, the Salt Lake City band’s new record continues where “…Crows” left off, following the crows as they fall to earth as black snakes….it all sounds pretty interesting and complicated but honestly, I really haven’t followed the story, it’s the music that’s pulling me in. This is a giant slab of hardcore tinged, sludgy doom that’s heavy as all hell. It’s a dense record, full of complex riffs over thunderous drum work, tied together with the throaty vocals of guitarist/singer Gentry Densley. While each song could easily stand on its own merits, this album is a complex concept piece and overall, it’s a cohesive collection.
Once again, Southern Lord has put out a spectacular record. The record is available on CD and double vinyl, along with shirts, from Southern Lord.
