haarp – Husks
haarp is a heavy southern sludge band whose new album Husks will be released September 18 on Phil Anselmos Housecore Records label.
The album consists of three long songs that total around 40 minutes. With a sound rooted in southern sludge, they are similar in vein to bands like Eyehategod and Weedeater, but haarp are not mere knock off, these guys bring their own style, they show a little grindcore, punk and metal influences but its primarily a sludgy affair. Like a lot of sludge/doom records, the songs here, at first listen, sound a little repetitive, but on repeat listen, the devil on the details begins to emerge. All three songs are actually pretty expansive and have a lot of stuff going on.
And on top of it being a damn good record, the cover kicks ass, something about the lone tree is a stormy twilight just seems to fit the overall tone foe the record, in fact, the cover is currently my desk top!
